Sem título: Galeria Luisa Strina
Galeria Luisa Strina is proud to present new works by the artist Marepe (1970). Opening on April 20th, this is his first solo exhibition at the gallery.
Marepe is one of the most well thought of the artists in Brazilian and international contemporary art. With a little more than ten years of work, the artist made important solo exhibitions in Brazil and in Germany already, and also some group exhibitions in the United States, Spain, Italy and Germany. This year, Marepe will participate in the 25th Bienal of São Paulo.
In this exhibition, his first solo one in São Paulo, the artist shows a new installation, specially made for the occasion. The installation refers to the daily and the current universe of the fairs (a theme always present in his works). “Marepe usually produces from ordinary objects, that we can find in the streets and fairs of Bahia and the north east area of Brazil. His work uses parts of the current urban and rural imaginary. He mixes this visual themes from a contemporary point of view, because he goes through the countryside to the city and through the city to the countryside, putting them in urban way”, said Fernando Cocchiarale in the catalogue “Os 90” (Paço Imperial, Rio de Janeiro, 2000).
