Dérive Veneziane: Galeria Luisa Strina

Overview

The film – recorded during the night from a boat – proposes a different, alternative side of the stereotyped, cliched Venice – a hidden Venice, an unknown Venice, a mysterious Venice.

Drawing inspiration from the Situationists’ derive, a theory described by Guy Debord as “a mode of experimental behavior linked to the conditions of urban society: a technique of rapid passage through varied ambiances”, Dérive Veneziane takes viewers on a strange and surreal nighttime boat ride through Venice’s iconic canals where they encounter the unexpected and the unanticipated.

The film premiered in the 72nd Venice Movie Festival, Italy, in 2015.
