CasiNo | Sentido Único: Galeria Luisa Strina
Galeria Luisa Strina presents Eduardo Basualdo’s second solo exhibition. The artist occupies both gallery rooms, each with a distinct exhibition.
In Room 1, Basualdo presents the project “CasiNo”, an installation produced specifically for the gallery premises. “CasiNo” gathers pieces that share an outlook of uncertainty and speculation. The works are exercises, equations of dubious verification about the state of time. Unstable prognostics of everyday happening. The most urgent issue ‘How to get out of here?’ only leads to other, more elementary, ‘Where are we?’.
Room 2, meanwhile, houses the project “Sentido Único” (One Way), created for the exhibition “The Travelling Show” at the Fundación Jumex, Mexico City, in 2010. This exhibition was curated by Adriano Pedrosa and focused on trips, travels, expeditions, displacements and cartographies. The installation is pervaded by the idea of stillness and permanence as a movement recognition strategy. Domestic movements are placed in perspective with the orbits of stars. The project includes kinetic sculptures, objects and drawing in a space in the shadows, lit up by the works themselves.
The work of Eduardo Basualdo (Buenos Aires, 1977) explores space as an elastic concept. In some cases his work refers to the human condition as awareness confined within a body and, in others, as bodies subjected to the rules of architecture. There is an intention in his art to dialogue with the principle of reality and the concept of limit.
