Tonico Lemos Auad was born in Belém in 1968 and lives and works in London. In his work, Tonico explores the personal and cultural significance of objects and materials, often referencing the popular traditions and landscape of both Brazil and the UK. The methodologies employed in his textile and wood works incorporate a variety of craft techniques, which lend an extended temporality to the work whilst proposing alternative modes of production to advanced capitalism's model of hyper-production and programmed obsolescence.
